AMERICUS, Kan. (AP) - A 22-year-old man has been found dead in a Lyon County pond after he didn't return from riding horses with friends and family.
Sheriff Gary Eichorn identified the man whose body was found Thursday as Thomas K. Reed of rural Lyon County.
He was reported missing Wednesday night after his horse was found. The horse was described as a "green-broke colt," which means the animal was still being trained.
Deputies and firefighters began searching and found some articles of clothing Wednesday night by the pond northeast of the small town of Americus. But they didn't find Reed's body until Thursday morning.
A riding accident is suspected to have led to Reed's death, but the investigation is continuing. His body has been taken to the Shawnee County Coroner's office for an autopsy.
