CONCORDIA, Kan. (AP) - The state's only wind energy school at Cloud County Community College is struggling to keep up with high demand for turbine technicians.

But the school in Concordia has no textbooks for the courses, and many of the students get jobs before they finish the program.

Cloud County Community College instructor Lucas Chavey is 1 of 3 teachers in the Wind Energy Technology program. It's 1 of 30 such wind energy programs in the country, but the only one in Kansas.

Two years ago, when the college offered its first wind energy classes, four students enrolled. This fall, the school will have 110 students in the program and a waiting list of 50.
