The Great Platte River Archway hosted the Pawnee Indians last weekend, welcoming them to their homeland, and in return the Pawnee held a traditional Pow Wow dance and drum exhibition on Saturday.
Plans for this weekend's events began about a year and a half ago, and with central Nebraska being so rich in history including the Pony Express and the Oregon Trail, volunteers say it's only fitting to honor the original habitants of our region.
"I think it's really important. It's something that, this is the history of the United States. It's an extra report of the westward movement and we're highlighting the westward movement, but we kept the Native Americans out of the Archway, and I think this is a way of filling up that gap," said festival volunteer John Cruzerro.
Unfortunately, the dancers had to cut their performance short due to rainy weather.
