The following is a press release from the Kearney Police Department:

At approximately 9:45 p.m. on September 15, 2009, officers of the Kearney Police Department were called to the Walgreens store at 2516 2nd Avenue to investigate an armed robbery. Employees of Walgreens reported that a male subject approached the pharmacy counter and demanded prescription drugs and cash. The subject was armed with what was believed to be a shotgun. The subject left Walgreens with an undisclosed amount of cash and prescription drugs. Witnesses outside the store were able to provide a vehicle description and several minutes later the suspects were contacted at the Elm Creek interchange by a Nebraska State Patrol Trooper.

Taken into custody for the armed robbery were Gary Filip, age 35 and Kristie Workman, age 40, both of Detroit Michigan. A juvenile that was present with the suspects was taken into protective custody and released to the Department of Health and Human Services. All suspects were taken into custody without incident, and no injuries were reported at Walgreens. The Kearney Police Department also received assistance from the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Health and Human Services during the investigation.
