Western Neb. school district sues former secretary

COZAD, Neb. (AP) - A lawsuit filed by the Cozad school district in western Nebraska has revealed the former employee accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The district had said earlier this month that it planned to file the lawsuit in Dawson County District Court to help recover the money missing from an activities account.

The lawsuit, filed last week, seeks nearly $338,000 from former high school secretary Brenda Sigler.

The lawsuit says Sigler diverted the money to herself.

Officials disclosed in August that money was missing. It began disappearing from district's accounts in 2004.

There was no answer at a Cozad phone listing for Sigler on Monday.

Authorities continue to investigate. Criminal charges haven't been filed against Sigler.
