Nebraska draws people from more states

Associated Press - October 22, 2009 11:05 AM ET

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - New figures suggest that people in an increasing number of states want to move to Nebraska.

An analysis of tax-filing data by the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Center for Public Affairs Research shows that last year there was a net population gain from 22 states - double the number from 2007. That means the number of people from those 22 states who moved to Nebraska was greater than the number of people who moved from Nebraska to the same states.

The 22-state net gain is the highest since 1996.

While the number of states from which Nebraska gained more people than lost has increased, overall 2,500 more people left Nebraska than moved to the state in 2008.

That is about half the loss that was experienced in 2007.
