Associated Press - October 22, 2009 4:05 PM ET

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A Lincoln woman faces a federal indictment, accused of stealing mail while employed with the U.S. Postal Service.

A news release issued by the U.S. Attorney's Office on Thursday says 35-year-old Stephanie Adams is charged with theft of mail by an officer or employee.

According to the indictment, the theft began around September 2007 and continued until late March of this year.

Assistant U.S. Attorney William Mickle couldn't say whether Adams is still employed by the Postal Service. Mickle says she is not in custody.

Adams does not have a publicly listed phone number. Court records don't list an attorney for her.

If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
