MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Riley County police are investigating the deaths of an adult and a young child whose partially buried bodies were found by a hunter.

Authorities say the hunter discovered the shallow grave Sunday evening in a rural area southwest of Manhattan. Police and the Shawnee County Coroner's Office say the grave held the remains of an adult woman and a small boy, possibly 3 years old or younger.

Police said Tuesday they were trying to identify the bodies, and autopsies were being performed to determine how the two died. They're also asking the public for information on any missing person cases involving a woman and small child.

The Shawnee County Coroner's Office regularly handles autopsies for Riley County.
