Literacy Council Looks for Donors, Volunteers

With a waiting list of potential students, the Literacy Council of Grand Island needs more donors and volunteers.

The group's director says donations keep the program going as they offer one-on-one help.

Volunteers donate thousands of hours every year to help children and adults learn to read and write.

Director Diann Muhlbach said, "When someone's having difficulty reading or understanding and they're able to read, it's like a feeling you can't describe. You're so elated they're able to read and weren't able to before. You find they get a better job because they could read and speak English."

The Literacy Council is hosting a volunteer appreciation banquet and auction Thursday, November 5 at the Saddle Club in Grand Island. Tickets are $25 each. Sponsored tables are also available.

Doors open at 5:00 with dinner to be served at 6:30. They will also host both live and silent auctions. For more information call 308-385-5515.
