Nebraska pheasant hunting season under way

Associated Press - November 4, 2009 6:25 AM ET

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Pheasant hunting season is under way in Nebraska and wildlife officials say it's off to a challenging start in some parts of the state.

The season kicked off last weekend with varied results.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission says a wet October left messy conditions and large areas of unharvested crops. Hunters in western Nebraska additionally were dealing with heavy snow.

But officials say they expect conditions to improve dramatically with drier weather and as harvest progresses.

The season continues through Jan. 31. Only rooster pheasants may be taken. The daily bag limit is three and the possession limit is 12. Permits may be purchased at http://www.OutdoorNebraska.org.
