OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Union Pacific railroad is warning hunters to stay away from railroad tracks for their safety.
The Omaha-based railroad issued a statement noting that hunters can be tempted to hunt along or near tracks, because wildlife tend to migrate along and feed near them.
The railroad says straps and other objects sometimes hang from moving cars and could hurt those near tracks.
The railroad says hikers, bicyclists and others should also stay away from tracks.
Through September, more than 32,000 people have been caught trespassing on Union Pacific Railroad property. The railroad says trespassers can be arrested and jailed or fined - or worse.
Last year, 458 people died and 426 were injured while trespassing on railroad property.
