GARDEN CITY, Kan. (AP) - A Garden City teacher who authorities accuse of making up a story about being beaten and robbed in his classroom has resigned and is no longer teaching in the district.
The teacher, Michael Blanks, was fined $300 earlier this month for falsely reporting a crime.
Garden City School District Superintendent Rick Atha says the Board of Education is expected to accept Blanks' resignation at a meeting Monday.
On Aug. 9, Blanks called police to Alta Brown Elementary School and reported that two Hispanic males forced their way into the school, beat him and then stabbed him in his leg.
Garden City Police Sgt. Michael Reagle has said police believe Blanks was wounded after he fell off of a desk while stapling things to the wall in his classroom.
