Neb. county going to court over company's debt

Associated Press - November 18, 2009 6:25 AM ET

McCOOK, Neb. (AP) - Red Willow County's attorney says he'll ask a judge later this month to let the county liquidate collateral it holds in a helicopter kit company that owes the county thousands of dollars.

Officials say Pawnee Aviation borrowed $200,000 from the county in 2004 and later received a grant of $100,000.

The grant depended on the company creating and maintaining full-time jobs. It failed to do so, so the county says the grant must be repaid.

So far, the county says, the company has repaid a little over $4,400 total on the grant repayment and the loan.

County Commissioner Earl McNutt says the company owner has not responded to notices that the county intends to sue.

A number listed for the company is no longer in service.
