Get in the Holiday Spirit with the Nutcracker

In 1999, when the Tassel Performing Arts Center opened its doors, the goal was to have a state of the art performing arts center that the community could call its own.  With the upcoming performance of The Nutcracker Ballet that goal is being realized.  Join Marie, the Nutcracker, and the Sugar Plum fairy in this classic production on Sunday, November 29th at 1:30 and 5:30 PM and Monday, November 30 at 10:00 AM.  This production is sponsored by Roy W. and Mary L. Pearson, Becton Dickinson, and the Phelps County Community Foundation with generous help from the Holdrege Dance Academy.

The Nutcracker Ballet is a highlight in a season-long celebration of the Tassel’s 10th anniversary.  The program has enrolled over forty local student dancers to perform with the professional company of the Minnesota Ballet.  As one community member remarked, “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students to dance with professional dancers.”  Local dancers will perform dance rolls ranging from the young Marie to the Russian and Spanish dancers.  “My daughter was so excited to see the Nutcracker, she couldn’t believe it when she actually got to be in the production,” remarked one mother.

The production itself is the complete ballet, with lavish sets and breathtaking backdrops.  The largest production the Tassel has attempted in its ten year history, the technical demands are daunting.  “The Minnesota Ballet Company moves in for four days, making this the longest we’ve ever had a professional company in our facility,” remarks Rachel Morgan, the Tassel’s Executive Director.  “We really wanted to do something that celebrated the unique way a community can come together to achieve something momentous, and we felt this was that event.”

With three performances, the Tassel hopes that you will be able to experience the magic and the holiday spirit that accompanies the season’s most famous ballet.  Tickets are available at the Tassel at 308-995-2717 or online at www.thetassel.org.  Please note, the Monday performance is an abbreviated performance approximately 60 minutes in length.

Season sponsors for the 2009-2010 season include: Becton Dickinson, Durable Service, Dr. Stuart & Lynn Embury, Hendrickson Fund for Excellence, Holdrege Family Vision Clinic, First National Bank, First Tier Bank, Person Law Office, Phelps County Community Foundation, Phelps County Farm Bureau Financial Services, Roy & Mary Pearson, William Johnson & Family, 37 Cattle Company, Agri Coop, Ag Service Associates, AgWest, Bank of Bertrand, B&B Cattle Company, Black Motor Company, Cargill, Central Valley Irrigation, Fairbanks International, Hinze Dentistry, Holdrege Market Place, Law Offices of Anderson, Klein, Swan & Brewster, NAPA Auto Parts, Principal Financial, SourceGas, TierOne Bank.
