LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska Supreme Court will weigh in on how far school districts must go to protect their students.

The high court will hear arguments Dec. 2 in a case involving a kindergarten student who was sexually assaulted by a stranger in a school restroom. The boy's mother sued Lincoln Public Schools in 2007 and argues that the district should have stopped the stranger from entering the school building or at least have warned her it could happen.

She says a Lancaster County district judge failed, too, in dismissing her complaint stemming from the 2005 assault on her then-5-year-old son.

The judge sided with the district, which argued it had taken reasonable steps to protect students but couldn't have predicted the assault.
