Husker Fans Prepare to Hit the Road

Something that will cost Nebraska residents a pretty penny, tickets to the Big 12 Championship Game.

Any time a team makes it into a Championship Game or a Bowl Game, fans should expect to pay more. But high prices aren't keeping Big Red Nation from supporting their team.

"I knew instantly that I wanted to go," said Matt Meister, a Realtor with Coldwell Bankers and one fan who already has tickets to the game.

"I knew that I was going to have to make arrangements."

Making arrangements. That's how some Husker fans describe their quest to get tickets for the Big 12 Championship Game in Dallas.

"I can't wait," added Meister. "I'm anxious to see Texas Stadium. I'm anxious to see the Huskers back against a Top 3 team in the Nation, and I'm anxious to watch Ndamukong Suh. He's amazing!"

But maybe not as amazing as the support the Huskers are receiving from their fans. It seems despite a rough economy, Big Red fans are shelling out big bucks to see their team.

"It's an excuse to go on a vacation to see a place like Florida, Texas, or California when
the Huskers are there," said Clayton Kush, a UNK Senior a Husker Fan who just booked his tickets.

"Also the team needs support. So you should be there whether the team is in Lincoln or anywhere else."

Historically, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have always been a football team that travels well, and the Big 12 Championship Game is no different. However, for this game, fans might be facing
something they never have before, outrageous ticket prices.

For fans looking to buy tickets, spending $150-$300 per ticket is not out of the question. Not to mention that some club seats will sell for $50,000 (that's right, $50,000)

Whoever wins the game, the City of Dallas may just be the biggest winner.

"The economic impact, even to a city the size of Dallas, when you're talking about 100,000
people coming for the game, the impact is huge for Dallas," said Meister.

Unlike regular season games, the Big 12 Conference actually pays for each team to get to the game.

All of the revenue from ticket sales are evenly split amongst all Big 12 teams.

We also want to remind our viewers, if you couldn't afford tickets and still want to see the
game; we'll have it right here on NTV on Saturday, December 5th at 7 PM.
