Ravenna Votes No to Feedlot

No feedlot for Ravenna residents. That's the final decision of the Buffalo County Board of Supervisors. It was 4 to 3 for the proposed feed lot, but it needed five to pass. Ravenna residents we talked to are happy, Board Members who voted 'yes' are dissapointed.

"Were just tickled pink," one Ravenna resident said.

"Were very happy, this feedlot did not belong in our community," another resident said.

Handshakes and smiles all around for the Ravenna residents opposed to the proposed dairy and feedlot.

"I'm just thankful that three of the board listened to us," one Ravenna resident said.

After listening to a lengthy proposition by Board Member Timothy Lowenstien, members Klein, McMulen and Dannehl voted against the proposed feed lot.

"There were more than 150 names against it on the petition, I had to take that into consideration,"  Ivan Klein said.

Klein voted against the proposition but says he's not opposed to a dairy farm in Buffalo County, but there was a lack of information in this particular case.

"I would have liked to hear more on the new technology and more details," he said.

Board Chairman Richard Pierce voted for the feedlot saying it would bring much economic development to the area.

"I'm dssapointed, this would be a great thing for the state," he said.

But those against the dairy farm say that's not true, and are happy it didn't pass. Buffalo County Board Members say this issue can finally be put to rest, at least for awhile.

"I would hope this isn't the last we've heard of a project like this entering into Buffalo County," Pierce said.

As for the the people who wanted to run the proposed feed lot, they refused to comment. But I did hear one of them say, "Guess I'll go back to growing corn."
