Update I-80 is closed for Westbound traffic at Ogallala.

The following is a press release from the Nebraska State Patrol:

(Lincoln, NE)- The Nebraska State Patrol is urging motorists to use caution as they travel across portions of western Nebraska.   Snow, and blowing snow causing near white-out conditions has forced the closure of Interstate 80 both east and west bound at Big Springs, mm 101, to the Kimball Interchange, mm 20.  The closure includes the Interstate 76 Junction. Travel is also difficult and not recommended on highways in the affected area.

The Nebraska State Patrol Troop E Headquarters in Scottsbluff is reporting numerous vehicles in the median and ditches and several crashes in the affected area.

"We are experiencing blizzard conditions, resulting in hazardous road conditions for motorists across portions of western Nebraska," said Troop E Captain Tom Parker.  "It doesn't appear the conditions will be improving anytime soon and travel is not recommended at this time."

The Nebraska State Patrol is urging motorists to keep updated on the latest weather and travel conditions.  Travelers can utilize the state's automated road and weather condition information system by dialing 511 from any landline or cellular phone.  The system can also be accessed via the internet through the Nebraska State Patrol web site at www.nsp.state.ne.us, click on "511 Traveler Information" in the Quick Links box.  Travelers outside of Nebraska wanting to check weather and road conditions in our state can dial 1-800-906-9069.
