This past Wednesday, Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney performed their 3,000th open heart surgery.
The hospital first began doing open heart surgeries back in 1994, and what started out as being a rare occurrence, is now common place.
Now the hospital does open heart surgeries several times each week. The hospital is building a new cardiac center, and doctors feel they'll see even more open heart surgeries.
"We'll have hopefully an expansion of services, more caths being done and hopefully providing more wide ranging services to out state Nebraska and central Nebraska," Dr. Michael Bibler, Cardiac Surgeon at Good Samaritan Hospital said.
According to Dr. Bibler, he has performed about 40-percent of the open heart surgeries done at Good Sam.
