Good Evening Nebraska Anchor
Andrea Hay is the anchor of Good Evening Nebraska, which airs weeknights at 6:30 p.m. Hired in April 2010, Andrea began as an NTV News nightside reporter, in November 2010 moved into a weekend anchor position, and in late 2011, began work in the creation of the Good Evening Nebraska show in a "news magazine" format. Ecstatic about the concept of the new show, which began airing in January 2012, Andrea said, "We're hoping to dig deeper into our reportage. There's a lot that can't be said in under two minutes, especially when you're dealing with a complicated crime story. We're aiming to give our viewers more information, but also tell the full story the best we can."
Good Evening Nebraska came partially as a result of Andrea's passion for investigative reporting. Andrea was one of the first at the scene of the death of 14-year-old Kailee Clapp of McCook, getting exclusive interviews inside the home of alleged murderer Stathis Kirkpatrick with family members and his girlfriend. Andrea sat in many hearings for those charged in the death and abuse of 4-year-old Landon Payne of Kearney County. Another big story of 2011 was the Crossroads Rescue Mission's attempt to build a homeless shelter in an "exclusive" area of Kearney. The attempt failed several times before the city and Crossroads were able to come to an agreement on size and location. "I saw passion and fury in all those stories, and on both sides of each issue. I could tell that people were interested in every detail, and I wanted to give it to them," Andrea said.
Andrea has a master's degree in journalism from New York University. In her time living in New York City, she was an intern in the United Nations building, working for CNN. Her reporting gave her daily contact with world leaders—Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, President Obama, the Clintons, among others. Prior to that, Andrea had internships with Inside Edition and Fox 6 News in Milwaukee, Wis. She received her undergraduate degree from Marian University in Fond du Lac, WI. She was the editor of the college newspaper, "The Sabre." Andrea is currently an adjunct faculty member at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in the journalism department.
In her spare time, Andrea plays the piano and participates in the drama and video ministry at her church. She says the highlight of her year is seeing her family on Thanksgiving. when they spend a week in a beach house in the Outer Banks, NC. Andrea is originally from State College, PA.
