Fair Offers Value for $8 Ticket

For the cost of one ticket to the movies, the Nebraska State Fair remains a good value. You can see everything from a prize heifer to marching bands, plus country star LeAnn Rimes and even Miss America.

With so much to see, do, and eat, one day may not be enough at the Nebraska State Fair. The concerts alone feature everyone from the Band Perry to Cheap Trick, plus LeAnn Rimes, Crystal Gayle, Jeremy Camp, Larry the Cable Guy and Willie Nelson.

Special Events Coordinator Chelsey Jungck said, "We tried to make sure it appealed to all demographics young and old, something for everyone."

And in most cases, they offer that at no extra charge.

Fair Director Joseph McDermott said, "There's roughly over $1 million in entertainment here on the grounds the next 11 days and vast majority is free."

Jungck said, "Out of seven concerts we're able to offer 5 free this year and that is something we pride ourselves on at the State Fair is the added value with $8 gate admission."

Shuttles to the grounds are free. And whether you're bringing a car or a bike, parking is free too.

Buzz Douthit is manning the new "Bike Barn". He said, "We're ready for people to ride their bikes up here and we'll rack them up."

A trip to the fair can be costly. There's deep fried food to try plus more commercial vendors. However, the fair itself is spreading out to offer more.

McDermott said, "We have expanded the grounds in order to draw people back to the horse shows in the Thompson Arena. We've lined the street with commercial vendors, food vendors, there's an entertainment zone, actually expanded the fairgrounds this year. People are going to notice that."

Those planning to go on rides in the midway might want to look into the various passes. The "mega pass" is available only until Midnight, August 26.

There will be an additional charge for some special events, including the draft horse show, demolition derby, and tractor pull.
