The Nebraska Cattlewomen will be out in full force to educate both consumers and youth that attend the 2011 Nebraska State Fair about the state's number one industry -- beef.
The Cattlewomen have selected two finalist recipes from the 2011 National Beef Cook-Off to prepare on the Showcase of Agriculture Stage in the Exhibit Building. Cattlewomen will give a total of 15 cooking demonstrations including asking beef trivia questions and educating consumers about the benefits of adding beef to their diet.
The recipes include Mongolian beef sloppy joes from the category retro recipes revived and steak, asparagus and walnut stir-fry, which was entered in the stir crazy solutions division.
Demonstrations are scheduled as follows in the Exhibit Hall:
Tuesday, Aug. 30 6 p.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 31 6 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 1 6 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 2 2 and 6 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 3 4 and 6 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 4 6 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 5 Noon and 2 p.m.
The Nebraska Cattlewomen are also taking part in Nebraska's Largest Classroom on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 29 and 30.
Nearly 4,000 school kids are expected to flood the fairgrounds to take in the fair and the educational scavenger hunt. NCW will have an educational display in the Birthing Pavilion, which they are co-hosting with the Nebraska Pork Producers and A-FAN.
Members of the education committee will be giving their popular educational presentation "WOW! That Cow!"on the Kids Zone Stage at 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. each of those two days. Nebraska Beef Ambassadors will be on hand to help educate youth and adults alike about the beef industry in Nebraska.
