The Nebraska Powerball is marking their 20th Anniversary of gaming operations by once again giving Nebraskans the chance to win big. The price of a powerball ticket will now be two dollars a piece, with the starting jackpot doubling as well from $20 Million to $40 Million. Today lottery officials stopped by Allens Superstore in Hastings, the site of the 1998 Powerball Winner, to spread the word about these upgrades to the game.
"Talk to people about the important changes that have happened to the Powerball game for the 20th Anniversary. Their's going to be larger jackpots, more millionaires and better overall odds of winning." Said Neil Watson of the Nebraska Lottery Public Information.
In the past 20 years the Nebraska Powerball has raised over $400 Million for it's beneficiary funds, which includes funds for education, the environment and even the state fair.
"Every time you buy a powerball ticket your helping to support good causes across Nebraska. We've been able to generate $429 Million since 1993." Said Watson.
Today was the last stop for the lottery tour, which has held events like this at each location where a Nebraska Powerball Winner bought a ticket. The tour concludes Wednesday with stops at the Kwik Stop and Big Red Liquor in North Platte.
