The newest member of the Nebraska Legislature has announced plans to seek a full term, after being appointed just this month.
Sen. Les Seiler of Hastings was selected by Gov. Dave Heineman to fill the vacancy created by Sen. Dennis Utter's death in December.
In a press release, Seiler said, "I would like the opportunity to represent District 33 in the upcoming legislative session and to address the issues most important to the people of Adams and Hall County."
The district includes Hastings and all of Adams County and much of Hall County, including Doniphan, Wood River, Cairo, and Alda.
Seiler has been seated on the Education and Government, Military, and Veterans Affairs Committees.
"Although I have only been in the legislature for a short amount of time, it is an honor to serve the people of District 33 and the state of Nebraska. I feel there is more I would like to accomplish in the Nebraska Legislature on behalf of the constituents of the District," he said.
Seiler has only been in office for a matter of days, but deadlines loom for candidates to file for office. Seiler said he plans to file the paperwork at the Secretary of State's office on Wednesday at the Capitol in Lincoln.
He pledged to bring a responsible and common sense approach to navigate the challenges our state faces."
Seiler and his wife Jo have three grown children and five grandchildren. Seiler is a partner in a Hastings law firm.
