An organization that helps low income families build a house they can call their own celebrates a milestone, and looks forward to the future.

Kearney's Habitat for Humanity celebrated 20 years of helping build communities on Saturday night. The affiliate is unique, made up entirely of volunteers who have helped build 61 homes in Kearney since the organization was founded.

Officials say it's that commitment that has contributed to its staying power.

"That keeps their overhead low, keeps the dollars from donors and other sources at help focused on families and focused on building homes," said Habitat for Humanity International's Ken Klein. "So when you have that kind of energy like they do in Kearney, you just want to stand back and get out of the way, because it's gonna happen."

The next building season for Habitat for Humanity starts at the end of March, with another three houses expected for the end of the build season.
