UNK Spring Enrollment Rises

UNK continues to be a growing University as enrollment numbers keep rising. The spring enrollment this year is up 5. 2% compared to last year.

This spring semester UNK gained 121 transfer students which is 13 more than this time last year.

"[Students] pay rent in the community, they buy their food, their clothing, entertainment in the community so the economic impact of UNK is very large and with additional students coming that only increases," said UNK Vice Chancellor Curtis Carlson.

The increase in students can fill up vacancies stores have across the area.

"UNK is a University where many students work and that provides great part-time employees for them as well as part-time employees for local businesses. Those turn into sometimes internships and of course often permanent employees after graduation," said Chamber of Commerce executive Jan Rodehorst.

Part of this growth reflects growth in enrollment in eCampus (online) offerings. The biggest growth in eCampus numbers includes undergraduate students who take face-to-face classes on campus along with online classes. Currently 21% of all UNK undergraduates now take both types of classes.

Total international students also increased from 422 in the fall to 493 this spring which is a 16.8% jump.

Here is the trend:

2012: 6,651

2011: 6,325

2010: 6,126

2009: 6,011

2008: 5,969

2007: 5,999

This is the highest level since 1997.
