Retired Police Chief Enters Plea in Child Sex Case

A retired police chief reaches a plea agreement, which finds him guilty of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy.

72-year-old William Gage of Aurora entered a no contest plea Friday. The judge accepted the plea and found him guilty of felony sexual assault.

With the plea agreement in place, the former Aurora police chief has agreed not to fight the charges. He will be sentenced in April.

Gage was scheduled for a status hearing in March, but on Valentine's Day, the prosecutor and defense attorney filed a joint motion indicating they had reached a plea agreement. The judge accepted the plea on Friday, February 17.

Court records previously obtained by NTV say Gage performed a sex act on a 15-year-old boy
last summer. Gage apparently admitted as much when questioned by investigators. A police officer served a search warrant at Gage's home in November and he was interviewed at least twice by officers.

The investigator wrote in an affidavit in the public file, "I went to the 15 year old male's residence. Once there I interviewed the 15 year old male, and he provided me with a statement confirming that Gage had indeed performed oral sex upon the 15 year old male, sometime to the 15 year old males best memory in June of 2011."

Authorities have previously said there may be more victims and they encourage anyone with information to contact authorities.
