The number of Nebraska farms is decreasing year-by-year.
According to the Department of Agriculture, Nebraska lost around 400 farms since 2010.
Farmers say you need to read between the numbers to find the real cause.
And that family farm sometimes goes to the next generation as well.
"My son's coming back to my
ranch and it's hard for him to come up with enough capitol he needs so
the only way we can make that work is to expand so that we have more
acres doing more for us so that we can bring him back into the
operation,"said Melody Benjamin with the Nebraska Cattlemen.
The average farm size grew by about 6 acres per property.
Benjamin also says she doesn't see an increase of out of state investors coming in.
The USDA says higher commodity prices were a major factor in those figures.
