Area Youth to Compete at State High School Finals Rodeo

Hastings- The entry list has been set for the Nebraska State High School Finals Rodeo, to be held in Hastings June 21-23 at the Adams County Fairgrounds. 

Nearly 150 high school rodeo athletes will compete in ten events. The top four competitors in each event will earn a berth at the National High School Rodeo Finals in Rock Springs, Wyo., July 15-21, where they will represent Nebraska.

Included in the contestant list are area residents Emily Bonifas of Roseland, in the barrel racing, and Rhett Nelson of Doniphan, in the steer wrestling, tie-down roping and team roping. Brothers, Rowdy and Cody Moon of Sargent, will compete in the team roping event.

The ten events include bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, breakaway roping, pole bending, barrel racing, cutting, and bull riding. 

The finals, the culmination of 27 regular season rodeos, will be held at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on June 21-22, with the short go-round on June 23 at 1 p.m. The cutting will be held at 7 a.m. on June 21-22, with the short go-round at 8 a.m. on June 23.  For more information, visit www.AdamsCountyFairgrounds.com.
