It has been almost four months since a private ambulance service and the Hastings Fire Department joined forces, and now, everyone is settled into their new workplace.

Two years ago a contract with the private ambulance company in Hastings was not renewed. In order to make sure the people of Hastings receive the right services in their time of need, the fire department and the ambulance company teamed up.

This change allows everybody to be on same page when they arrive on scene.

"No call is ever the same," firefighter and paramedic Jason Henery said. "You're always thinking and always on your feet."

So far they have accomplished more than 700 calls in the last three months. Many firefighters are also EMTs. Everyone working at the station is qualified or has a very good understanding on how everything works.

"Our paramedics are finding their groove," Hastings Fire Chief Kent Gilbert said. "They're getting the system down pretty well. We're very happy with where we're at."

The fire department is happy they have the opportunity to work with the private company and look forward to what the future brings.
