Delegates stood in applause as senate hopeful Deb Fischer takes the stage. She wasted no time responding to attacks.
"They call me a welfare rancher because my family pays the bill that is sent to us by the government for Federal grazing land," said Fischer.
"Bob Kerrey saying that farm programs, conservation programs are welfare...really?" said Fischer.
Delegates listening to the speech say they like her passion.
"I'm just excited for her as a candidate," said delegate heading to Tampa, John Sieler.
Sieler has been going to national Republican conventions since 1980 during the Ronald Regan administration.
"It's a real honor to meet national figures," said Sieler.
Joyce Simmons won the national committeewoman on Saturday and will also head to Tampa next month.
"I'm very excited to be a convention delegate and of course support Mitt Romney," said Simmons.
And she's also Fischer's neighbor.
"We are neighbors, we're in ranch country and neighbors may not mean next door...we know each other so well in small communities," said Simmons.
And just to meet other Republicans across the country.
"It's a very exciting thing to come together to see other like-minded people from all over the United States together," said Simmons.
"It's a lot of fun," said Sieler.
