Take a Night Out Against Crime in GI

Posted: Updated:

Grand Island- The 29th Annual National Night Out, a unique crime and drug prevention event, has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 7.

National Night Out (NNO) is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the city of Grand Island.

NNO is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. It allows people to get to know their neighbors better through a block party, picnic, or other neighborhood event.

NNO is a great way to spend time with friends and to become better acquainted with new neighbors.  The benefit the community derives from participation in NNO extends well beyond this one night.

Neighborhoods can request street closures by contacting the Public Works Department at 308-385-5444 ext. 260 by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1.  The Public Works Department will arrange for barricades to be delivered to the neighborhoods and picked up.

There are no fees for street closures related to National Night Out events.

The Public Works Department will forward a list of participating neighborhoods to the Police Department.  Depending on the amount of other police related activity taking place on August 7, the Police Department is hopeful to have officers stop by and visit the neighborhood parties.
