The Nebraska State Fair cut it close two years ago putting up $40 million worth of facilities, and they might do it again, with word the sky tram just might be ready in time after all.
A truck hauling parts for the Sky Tram was destroyed in a crash last week.
It was in a truck that was involved in an accident on Interstate 80. Two trucks collided, and caught fire. The equipment for the Sky Tram was destroyed.
Fortunately, it was only one of three trucks hauling parts. And in just a week's time, the fair has been able to find replacement parts. The only thing missing is the hydraulic motor.
But Executive Director Joseph McDermott said, "There's a firm in Iowa that's actually working on
that now. They hope to have it here by Monday. We're cautiously optimistic the ride will be up by opening day, if not opening day, fairly certain it will operate at some point during the fair."
The support columns for the ride have been set, and cables have been strung. The ride inspired the fair's 2012 theme "High Flying Fun."
