North Platte Police Dept. Warns About New Scam

The North Platte Police Department is warning the community about a new scam that is circulating in central Nebraska. With so many people finding it hard to make ends meet it is making it easy for criminals to prey on those in desperate need of work with business scams.

This scam is a basic check cashing scam, but with a business scam twist. The scammers claim they will pay for the owner's car to be wrapped with advertisements for popular companies like Monster Energy, Coca-Cola, or Budweiser.

Once a victim is attracted and registered scammers will send a fraudulent check or checks for a large amount of money. They will then tell the "new employee" to cash the fake check(s) at their local bank.

The victim is then directed to retain a certain portion of the money for payment to the car owner and the rest is to be sent via wire transfer to the company who will supposedly wrap the vehicle.

NPPD says there are no car wrapping companies actively looking for drivers and one should never pay to get on a car wrap advertiser list as this is also a scam.
