The 2012 Kearney Little League All-Stars will arrive home from Williamsport, Pa. on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 23.
A welcome home event is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Viaero Event Center south of the Kearney Interstate 80 exit. The team will arrive in town via Highway 30 and then their route will turn down Second Avenue towards the Viaero Event Center for the homecoming event. The Little League Board is hoping to see signs along the route welcoming the team home!
There will be a short program at the homecoming including a few remarks from the coaches. The public is encouraged to attend and help welcome the team home.
Kearney went undefeated at the Nebraska Little League State tournament and then the Regional tournament in Indianapolis to become Midwest Regional Champs and advance to the 66th Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
No Nebraska team had ever before qualified. Kearney and seven other regional champs from the United States along with eight champions from the rest of the world started LLWS play on Thursday, Aug. 16th.
During tournament play Kearney lost its first game on Thursday, Aug. 16 to the Southeast Champions from Goodlettsville, Tenn. 1-12. Next Kearney was defeated by the New England Champions from Fairfield, Conn. 0-12 on Saturday, Aug. 18 before closing out the tournament with a 17-1 win over the European Champions from Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany.
Kearney set a LLWS record in the win over Germany by scoring 15 runs in an inning (the second inning).
