State Fair and Local Business Growth

Posted: Updated:

The state fair grounds are ready in time for opening day, but local businesses in the community have had to make some preparations also.

According to numbers from the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce, local businesses need to be prepared for over 300,000 people coming into the community throughout the next 10 days.

It's great news for local businesses like Tommy's restaurant. The restaurant's manager, Eric Edwards, said "We do have an extra staff, just in case, you never know what's going to happen and how it comes in."

They're  also preparing to have enough food for people getting off the fair grounds and into the community.

Chamber of Commerce officials are certain, more people equals more revenue. President of the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce, Cindy Johnson, said "We calculated a 20 million dollar impact to the community, 5 million is from the direct operations… but 15 million of that comes from visitors to the community."

With 1,700 hotel rooms available in Grand Island, many are booked for both weekends.
