Thursday afternoon a student from Barr
Middle School was hit by a car outside the school. The sixth-grade student is fine, but did receive some scrapes.
Brian Kort, Barr Middle School principal, did suggest to the student's parent that she be checked out at St. Francis Medical Center.
The student ran into the street without checking for cars and was not at a crosswalk. The car stopped, but not before hitting the student.
Grand Island Public Schools would like to urge parents to remind their children to be careful at all times when walking near traffic before and after school and to always use crosswalks - especially with extra traffic in town for the Nebraska State Fair.
Drivers are also urged to be cautious in school zones and keep a watchful eye out for students.
