Kearney area philanthropist and local golden girl, Carol Cope, has died at the age of 103.

She died around 10 p.m. Thursday evening in her Kearney home. Her birthday was Thursday.

Cope served on many local boards and gave generously for many area projects such as the Ron and Carol Cope Heart Center at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Carol and her late husband, Ron, owned Claussens Shoes and used their profits to invest in Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway Co. The money they made from their investments went into bettering their community through many building projects and leadership support.
