Standoff in Fullerton

Posted: Updated:

A standoff in Fullerton Saturday night leaves a roommate fearing for his life. The incident happened at 6:30 p.m. in Fullerton with State Patrol SWAT units and the local sheriff's department responding.

The roommate who only wanted to be identified by his first name, Mark, said he was working on a truck behind the home at 402 N. Fourth St. when his visibly drunk roommate, Johnny Wondercheck, became upset.

Mark says they got into a verbal disagreement, and while Mark was about to move the truck, Wondercheck went inside and grabbed a shotgun. Mark says Wondercheck shot one shot into the air before pointing it at his leg making threats.

Mark says neighbors called 911, while he tackled his roommate to the ground, getting the gun from Wondercheck and running off the property.

Mark says Wondercheck was subdued by law enforcement without further incident. Although others reported Wondercheck possibly had barricaded himself in the home, Mark tells NTV that was never the case.

Wondercheck was arrested by the Nance County Sheriff's Department and transported to the Platte County Jail where he remained in custody Sunday night. He faces charges of terroristic threats, felony assault, felony weapons charges, including discharging of a gun within city limits.

Mark said he was scared for his life, not knowing if his longtime friend would shoot him.
