Gomecindo RodriguezA Minden sex offender was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge John M. Gerrard.
U.S. Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced that Gomecindo Rodriguez, 55, was sentenced in Lincoln to six months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender.
After his release from prison, Rodriguez will be required to serve a seven year term of supervised release and be registered as a sex offender.
Rodriguez is also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.
Rodriguez is required to register for life as a sex offender after having been convicted in 1995 in Orange County, Fla., of attempted sexual battery of a person under 12 years old. Rodriguez left Florida sometime after July, 2011.
On March 21, Rodriguez obtained a Nebraska I.D. card stating he lived in Minden. He told officers that he had been living and working in Minden for at least three months, and knew of his obligation to register as a sex offender in Nebraska, but chose not to do so.
This case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service.
