A shrinking budget and cost-saving measures force the United States Post Office to either shut down or cut down hours in rural communities.
The Hayes Center post office is on the initial list of reduced hours which could have a dramatic impact on the small community. It's the only post office in Hayes County which covers about 700 square miles.
As one of only a handful of county agencies in the village, the adjustment would still be significant for the rural customer.
"They won't have the hours open for them for eight hours a day. They will only have a certain amount of hours," said Postmaster Barry Strasburg. "So somebody that comes from 20 minutes away from out in the country will have to schedule their trip when the post office is open, if that's what they're coming to town for."
The decision to cut down hours for the post office will not be known until October 2014. As for now, it's business as usual.
