Positive Pressure, a work group of Buffalo County Community Partners, has partnered with the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office, Good Samaritan Hospital, Two Rivers Public Health Department and the Kearney Elks Lodge #984, for their Prescription Drug Take Back Event.
The event is Saturday, Sept. 29, from 8 a.m. to noon and will be held in the parking lot north of Good Samaritan Hospital, near the intersection of East 35th street and Avenue 'A', in Kearney.
According to TRPHD, unused medications may be accidental health threats to children and pets, can contaminate the environment when they get into ground water, and can be scavenged from trash cans to be sold illegally.
At the last Take Back event in April, 249 pounds of prescription medications were brought in by 63 individuals.
"Large quantities of unused or expired prescription drugs have been collected through this event," Jessica Carter, Coalition Coordinator, said. "We are excited about our partners that provide support for this event and look forward to providing a drug take back location for the community."
