Beginning October 1, the city of Grand Island's yard waste site will expand its operating hours to include Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Previously the yard waste site has been closed on Wednesdays.
Grand Island Transfer Station is located at 5050 W. Old Potash Highway and includes the yard waste site. The entrance to the yard waste site is located on Monitor Road, which borders the Transfer Station property to the east.
Tree limbs and branches, grass, and leaves are accepted at no charge to non-commercial customers. Yard waste to be disposed of must be clean of waste and debris and must be emptied from garbage bags at the time of disposal.
Customers delivering yard waste must also ensure loads are properly secured so as to prevent littering along the roadways.
The yard waste site will now be open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
