The Nebraska Public Power District is draining canals from the Keystone Dam to Lake
Maloney to do some maintenance on the western Nebraska waterway.
The utility company has started draining the canals so workers can make
detailed inspections and maintenance that is required every five years.
Utility water resources advisor Edward Dekleva says crews will inspect the bottom and sides of the canals. They
will also check structures that are normally underwater.
Lake Maloney water levels are also expected to drop.
