Man Gets 2 Years Probation for Abusing an Elderly Woman - KHGI-TV/KWNB-TV/KHGI-CD-Grand Island, Kearney, Hastings

A former Pleasanton man has been given two years of probation for mistreating a 71-year-old south-central Nebraska woman he was hired to care for.

Gary Buchanan, 54, was sentenced recently on two misdemeanor charges of attempted abuse of a vulnerable adult and attempted terroristic threats. He had pleaded no contest as part of a deal with prosecutors.

Along with his probation, Buchanan was also ordered to attend classes on self-control, finances and responsible thinking.

In April the woman told police that Buchanan had been verbally abusive to her and had pushed her into a chair.

Investigators learned that the victim was also verbally abusive to Buchanan, and he would respond by verbally abusing her and pushing her.
