Crop Updates for Nebraska and Kansas

Posted: Updated:

Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service says growers have seeded 65 percent of the 2013 winter wheat crop in the state.

Progress is ahead of both last year and the average for this time of year. About a quarter of the winter wheat has now emerged.

Soybean harvest reached the 23 percent mark, while almost a fifth of the sorghum harvest is complete.

The agency rated 63 percent of soybeans and 67 percent of sorghum as being in poor or very poor condition.

Nebraska's corn and soybean harvest is ahead of schedule but the drought has slowed down winter wheat development.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said Tuesday that the corn harvest is about two-thirds done and a month ahead of schedule. The soybean harvest is 71 percent done and about two weeks ahead of normal.

About 80 percent of Nebraska's winter wheat crop has been seeded, but less than one-third of the crop has emerged.
