KPS Candidate Angela Nickel Runs With 31 Years Of Teaching Experience

Posted: Updated:

A retired teacher wants her voice to be heard on the Kearney Public School Board.

Angela Nickel taught fifth grade for 31 years at Park Elementary in Kearney. Both of her daughters graduated from Kearney High School. Her husband is a farmer.

Nickel grew up in Wood River and went to a two classroom school for kindergarten.

She's been retired for just over a year now and she wants to give back to the school district in another role.

"This just seems to me the perfect opportunity right now. I have all my years of experience," said Nickel.

That relationship with the students Nickel says will bring a different perspective to the board.

"I will bring a balance to the board. The board is as strong as the strengths of its individual members," said Nickel.

One major issue facing the KPS Board in the future is the potential overcrowding in the middle and high schools.

"Giving the taxpayers a choice, giving them options. And another thing we need to think about is those 4th graders will be in 6th grade in two years and that's when they hit the middle school," said Nickel.

If elected Nickel says she will not take this job lightly.

"Being on the school board, that's a tremendous responsibility and I will take it very, very seriously," said Nickel.

The election is on November 6th.
