Two workers have reported injuries in an accident at a food plant in Norfolk.
Firefighters responded to a call at Henningsen Foods around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday.
Two workers were burned when a small fire started a chain of events that led to ignition in multiple areas.
The
propane tank fire that prompted the 911 call had already been
extinguished when fire crews showed up. But as workers checked the propane system, propane spewed
out of a pressure relieve valve which was followed by the pilot light on a
nearby machine igniting.
Norfolk Fire Capt. Lyle Lutt says that new fire soon ignited gas coming from a pressure relief fitting on a different machine.
Lutt
says the two plant workers suffered second-degree burns on their faces,
heads and arms. They were treated by firefighter medics but not
hospitalized.
