A Gothenburg woman convicted of manslaughter has received the maximum sentence in the Dawson County courthouse Friday morning.
Doris Herrin has been sentenced to 18-20 years in prison for the death of her 3-year-old daughter, Misty, who died in December 2010 from head injuries.
On Dec. 21, 2010, the unresponsive child was taken to the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital emergency room by her mother and her mother's boyfriend, Adam Jesseph, after sustaining what they said was a fall while left unattended in her bedroom.
That same day, she was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, where she underwent emergency surgery for a brain injury.
The following day, Misty was removed from life support and was pronounced dead.
Herrin was originally charged with intentional child abuse resulting in death, but pleaded guilty to an amended charge of manslaughter in August.
