Jon Watts is a Kearney native and is the youngest candidate running for one of the three open spots on the KPS Board of Education.
Watts is vying for a spot on the school board that he grew up in. He graduated from Kearney High School and has three young children.
"The future's bright, but I think it's going to take work to get to where we need to go," said Watts.
And Watts says that work involves a lot of time and energy, and he says being the youngest candidate brings its advantages.
"I think there's a lot of value to having young parents on the board," said Watts. "I think you're at the soccer games, I think you're at the volleyball games, I think you interact with who education is directly impacting. I also think I have the energy and passion and leadership with older generations too because the fact is, to pass bond issues, to move forward we need their support."
Watts' background deals with budgets, purchasing and contracts at the University of Nebraska at Kearney something he says will help if elected on the board.
"One unique thing about my candidacy is that I work in educational financing so I think that's my strength," said Watts.
Watts also says that he wants to be open and direct to the public on decisions made on the board.
The election is on November 6th.
